1. Our Commitment
The Iberia African American Historical Society is committed to ensuring iaahsonline.org is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. We believe our mission — preserving and sharing history — should be available to the widest possible audience.
2. Standards We Aim to Meet
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities.
3. Measures We Take
To support accessibility, we strive to:
- Provide meaningful alternative text for images, including archival photographs
- Ensure sufficient color contrast between text and background
- Structure content with proper headings for screen reader navigation
- Ensure the Site is navigable by keyboard alone
- Provide captions or transcripts for video and audio content (including oral history recordings) where feasible
- Use responsive design so content is usable across devices and screen sizes
4. Known Limitations
Some archival materials — including scanned historical documents, older photographs, and oral history audio — may not be fully accessible due to their original format (e.g., handwritten documents, low-quality historical audio). We are working to improve transcripts and descriptions for this content over time.
5. Feedback
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of iaahsonline.org. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please let us know:
- What page or content you were trying to access
- What problem you encountered
- Your contact information (optional, if you’d like a response)
Contact: info@iaahsonline.org
We try to respond to accessibility feedback within a reasonable timeframe and will work to address issues as resources allow.
6. Formal Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), or seek other applicable remedies under Louisiana law.
