1. Ownership of Content
Unless otherwise noted, all text, photographs, audio/video recordings, and design elements on iaahsonline.org are the property of IAAHS or are used with the permission of the original rights holders (including families and individuals who have donated materials to the Society’s archive).
2. Archival and Historical Materials
Many items in the IAAHS archive — including oral history recordings, family photographs, and historical documents — have been generously donated or loaned by community members and their families. In some cases:
- IAAHS holds full rights to reproduce and display the material
- Materials are displayed with the permission of the family or donor, who retains underlying rights
- Some materials may include third-party copyrighted content (e.g., newspaper clippings, published photographs) used under fair use or with permission for educational, nonprofit purposes
If you are a rights holder and believe material on this Site should be credited differently, restricted, or removed, please contact us (see Section 6).
3. Permitted Use
You may view, download, and share content from this Site for personal, educational, or research purposes, provided you:
- Do not alter the material
- Credit IAAHS (and any named contributor/donor) as the source
- Do not use the material for commercial purposes without written permission
4. Requesting Permission for Other Use
For any use beyond personal/educational purposes — including publication, commercial use, exhibits, films, or republishing archival photographs or oral history excerpts — please contact us in advance with:
- The specific item(s) you wish to use
- Your intended use and where it will appear
- Requested duration/scope of use
We will respond with permission terms, applicable fees (if any), and any attribution requirements.
5. Submitting Materials to the Archive
If you wish to donate or loan family photographs, documents, or oral histories to IAAHS, you will be asked to complete a donor agreement specifying:
- Whether you are donating ownership or granting a license
- What credit/attribution you would like
- Any restrictions on display or use (e.g., names withheld, restricted until a certain date)
6. Copyright Concerns or Removal Requests
If you believe content on this Site infringes your copyright or that of someone you represent, please contact us with:
- A description of the copyrighted work
- The location of the material on our Site
- Your contact information and a statement of good-faith belief that use is unauthorized
We will review and respond promptly.
